Though I was on my way to photograph something else, this butterfly/moth (I'm thinking moth, but I couldn't find a matching identifying photograph and it is pretty colorful for a moth) flitted in front of me and took me on a distracted and welcomed photo shoot. It is challenging to capture these insects while they fold their symmetrical wings back and forth...and before they move off to the next landing spot. The wing's patterns offer so many survival strategies - camouflaging in brown and neutrals to blend into the woody and sandy environment and sporting large 'eyespots' to mimic a larger predator.

Camouflage in the human world is often used for the same purposes. Human nature also tends to accept a manipulation of camouflage, as noted with J. Russell Lynes' quote:
“Camouflage is a game we all like to play, but our secrets are as surely revealed by what we want to seem to be as by what we want to conceal.”
