The verdigris really adds character to this little fountain sculpture...and even matches the umbrella! :) Naples, FL

Water Lily Drifting
Floating
disembodied
on the water
lilies spread wide,
spinning in giddy circles on a reflection of the sky.
like a blind child stumbling,
they bump against the smooth curve of stones –
recoiling
pain sends
red flashes
vibrating through the water …
A petal falls,
bright against the black pond,
drifting alone,
it is an uncrewed boat curled upwards by the waves –
swamped
before going under.

On a little perch, this waterbird looks a bit out of his element high up in the pine tree....but he doesn't seem to care either! ;) Naples Botanical Garden, Naples, FL

My photographic equipment doesn't compare, but it doesn't stop me from catching a few shots! :) Naples Botanical Garden, Naples, FL

Bougainvillea drapes this garage door frame, but the hard-lined shadows add a fanciful note. Naples, FL

Just an ordinary lawn watering - though one wonders why it isn't scheduled when the sun isn't out to help evaporate it off the grass instead of nourishing the blades... Naples, FL

Florida tickseed brightens the landscape that appears to be dulling a bit. Though wildflowers and weeds often overlap, they are usually more appreciated when they offer color. :) Naples, FL

Hunter's Moon has been aptly named for its bright illumination lasts well into the morning hours and allows a chance for me to photograph it! :) Naples, FL

Boo at the Zoo with Luke, an escaped convict [his buddies apparently are back in custody :)]. He looks like he's trying to blend in as a zebra, but I'm not buying it - how about you?! :) Naples Zoo, Naples, FL

Nicely mirrored, the rippled water offers both a focused and a blurred view. There always seems to be one point in our vision that stands out in more clarity, while other objects take the back burner. Naples, FL

The muhly grass is showing off its blooms. It is beautiful to watch the delicate wisps dance in the sunlight - love this fall show-off! :) Naples, FL

Another pink 'performance' - this time a powderpuff showing off its long, delicate hairs in a burst reminiscent of fireworks! :) Highlighted by the sun against a dark background, it really deserves star treatment. Naples, FL

Like the free form clouds, bare branches often invite a response to "What do I resemble?' - my first impression is a very skinny dragon. What do you see and/or what words would you add to enhance the image? Create your own! Remixing, personalizing, manipulating are relatively new vocabulary to describe learning - Like! Naples, FL

A rainless week and the 'arid' air has already turned some living things brittle - no matter, this is the 'thinning' time and only the strong survive! :) Naples, FL

The Silk Floss tree is in its glory! The blossoms are so profuse, but I couldn't resist a closer look! :) The beautiful pink in honor of breast cancer month - love the pink across the NFL televised games! :) Naples Botanical Garden, Naples, FL

The sidewalks won't be empty for long...it's that time of year for transitions from the hot, humid summers to the delightful days of dry, balmy weather....and many seasonal visitors. 3rd St South shopping center, Naples, FL

A spiny-backed orb weaver with a little more color variation than my Flickr friend Anne Davis captured the other day. They are fascinating creatures and there appeared to be a miniature version (a baby?) of this one also in the web, but need to go back and try to pick that up on the lens. Naples, FL

These crimson beauties littered the entry road to the beach access...their rich color highlighted by the bright sunshine. Looks a bit like a hibiscus flower but it falls from a 30 foot tall tree, not a shrub - and the petals spiral out from a base, unlike our typical hibiscus. One more identification mystery - but while its name remains a mystery, its beauty is in plain view. 3rd Ave N & Gulf of Mexico, Naples, FL

Morning at the Naples Pier brings out fishermen/women and walkers, as well as terns and gulls. A glimpse of seasonal change with the dry warmth and a slight breeze...and a promise of at least a couple of nights with A/C at the end of the week (we'll see!!). 13th Ave S & Gulf of Mexico, Naples, FL

Look what finally showed up in SW Florida? For some reason, Fat Tire has had a difficult time making it to the Sunshine State from the Rockies. Though not much of a beer drinker, the brew was a quench-buster for this TGIF and a virtual toast to my CO/WY/UT family and friends. Naples, FL

Eyeing a watchful snowy...delighting in the beauty of nature and wondering how we can so easily complicate the simplicity of 'survival of the fittest' with such politics as evidenced in recent days (and weeks...and years....). Freedom Park, Naples, FL

At the ACE [Adult and Community Educators] of Florida conference presenting 'Curating: It's Not Just for Museums'. Symbaloo appeared to be a highlight for the participants. Always fun to share, especially to a small, but appreciative, group of dedicated educators. Hilton Lake Buena Vista, Orlando, FL
